49. Nell Smith & Flaming Lips - Red Right Hand
After being spotted at Flaming Lips shows whilst only eleven years old (with her Dad, of course), Wayne Coyne and the Lips decided to make some recordings of Nick Cave songs with one of their youngest fans. Faithful to the original but with that Flaming Lips crunch, 'Red Right Hand' is a highlight of the recent collaborative album 'When The Viaduct Looms'.
48. Dirk Darmstaedter - Mars
Glorious stand-alone single from ex Jeremy Days vocalist (anyone here remember that band?!). Dirk is the master of melodic pop and 'Mars' is one of several ace singles he released in 2021.
47. Allison Russell - Nightflyer
Another of the years breakthrough soul albums came from Allison Russell and her fantastic 'Outside Child'. Full of resonating melodies and intimate stories, Allison has wasted no time proving she's the real deal. A star is born...
46. Low Island - Hey Man
Just before the Vinyl Revolution store closed, one of our musically savvy customers told me to go seek out Low Island...and he wasn't wrong. Fast-forward to 2021 and the bands debut album 'If You Could Have It All Again' lands and is nothing short of excellent. Classy, modernist pop with a twist.
45. The Magic Gang - Make A Sound
'Death of the Party' is another fine album by The Magic Gang. More synth-heavy and 80's influenced than their power pop debut, there's a feast of great songs on this record.
44. Indigo De Souza - Kill Me
Another natural talent, Indigo De Souza is signed to Saddle Creek records and released her second album 'Any Shape You Take' to great reviews in 2021. 'Kill Me' is the last track on a thought-provoking record, with Indigo never shrinking away from taboo lyrical subjects.
43. Beirut - Fisher Island Sound
One of my favourite recording artists, Zach Condon's Beirut returned in 2021 with another uplifting pop song which only has one fault...it ends too quickly! Here's to a new album in 2022...
42. The National - Somebody Desperate (Cyrano Soundtrack)
Slow and brooding like many of the best National tracks are, 'Somebody Desperate' is a real grower and usurps many tracks on the bands last couple of albums.

The US alt rockers returned with yet another minimalist slice of pop perfection. And a cool video to boot! New album due in 2022...
